This applies to both entry-level tools and professional tools.

The PX-5S is a stage piano / synthesizer that includes a wide range of possibilities for working with live sound. PX-5S is a tool of the PRIVIA family, which is famous for its quality tools.

Sound Casio PX-5S

The instrument uses an AIR sound processor and 256-note polyphony, which guarantee the natural sound of a classical piano. The instrument has a wide selection of sounds: 370 preset and 350 user.

A large number of controllers and sliders allows you to fine-tune the sound.

Using the Hex-layer function - simultaneously applying tones to the main melody opens up great opportunities for the user through the use of a wide range of sounds. This adds complexity to the timbre, allows you to play arpeggios, the sound can fade out and increase, depending on the time you hold the note or pressure. With live play, endless sound variations can be created.

Keys

The PX-5S uses Hammer Action's three-touch mechanics, which, with the help of full-sized keys, reproduces a truly natural sound.

The keys are sensitive to speed, but do not have an after-touch function, which, however, is a slight drawback of this model. The keys themselves are made of high-quality durable plastic and sound good.

However, they are quite lightweight, I would prefer heavier keys. This is a good quality keyboard, though inferior to the classical piano. So if someone has ever played on a light keyboard, this tool will suit you.

Features

The tool has many features. One of the most interesting is the hexadecimal blending system. This allows the user to overlay various sounds on top of many others that may come out of the same note, different depending on the pressure applied to it.

You can also program arpeggios and small phrases or sound clips that can be accessed using the sliders on the keyboard and raise or lower their sound volume during a performance. All this adds some dynamism to the piano and makes the instrument ideal due to its electronic functions.

Also included in the instrument are over 300 tones and effects. Voices can be generated in real time during the game or programmed into user banks as presets. All this is customizable and can later be saved for later use in performances.

There is a recording function, which includes 8-track sequencing, up to 1000 phrases, for playback at performances. Equalizer and compression sliders help maximize selected frequencies and mixed sounds.

The PX-5S has USB and other plug-ins that allow you to save and play back information. There are also two pedal input jacks in the instrument.

pros

I would definitely choose this piano. Several times I settled on a simpler instrument, since my own synthesizer is too heavy. This may seem like an excuse, but any musician who at least once pulled his instrument will tell you that 11 kg is a very good weight.

Of course, if the sound of the instrument reminded me of the screech of a ferret in a centrifuge, I would not even look in his direction. But the PX-5S sounds truly great. In this price range there is nothing better than this model. Keyboards that are similar in characteristics and sound quality, as a rule, weigh an order of magnitude more and cost at least twice as much. This model can work (be powered) from the battery, which makes it truly portable (this is very rare in keyboards of this class).

A large number of filters and control functions, overlays make the tool universal on stage. Electronic sound can be individually tuned, which opens up great opportunities for the user to play music.

256-note polyphony allows you to overlay notes on top of each other. This is necessary for hexadecimal overdubbing, when 8 notes can be superimposed on one note at a time.

Minuses

Let's list the disadvantages of this tool - there are not so many of them as pluses. Firstly, the appearance of the keyboard: I do not really like its black and white body. It seems to me that the instrument is losing from this.

Further, the keyboard does not have an after-touch function, which is present even in lower-class models. Despite the huge number of bells and whistles, it seems that they simply forgot to screw this function.

The sounds of the piano are not as natural as on more expensive models, and this can stop those who are looking for the true sound of a concert grand piano. However, in the arsenal of the instrument you can find really rich sounds for a great game.

There is also a sense of fragility of the plastic case and it is not yet known how long the keys will last when they begin to have problems.

For such a light and portable machine, a significant drawback is the lack of speakers - you have to buy external amplifiers. The presence of 1/8 ”audio outputs allows you to use even the smallest external amplifiers.

Summary

Casio PX-5S is offered at an amazing price and has the features that are inherent in expensive models. Of course, there are people who will seek out shortcomings in this model, but in the long run it is a quality instrument that will satisfy even the most demanding musicians.

If you are just getting acquainted with the stage piano and the dynamics of playing an instrument that uses adjustable tones and effects in real time, this instrument is created for you.

The range of sounds is truly unlimited, the interface is very clear and simple, which makes the instrument ideal for beginners. To create a music library, the keyboard has a large number of tones and sounds.

Casio did an excellent job with this tool as an example. Although the company cannot overtake its competitors in the field of innovative technologies, however, it knows at what price to sell its own product in order to stay afloat.

The Casio Privia PX-5S's excellent sound and portability bring this digital piano to its pedestal.
